News Update:
A statement issued by Tony Bateson, director of the County Air Ambulance Trust on the Midlands Air Ambulance
and its director Paul Leaman
“To avoid any confusion amongst our supporters we would like to make clear that the County Air Ambulance Trust will continue to operate as the County Air Ambulance Trust and that Paul Leaman director of the Midlands Air Ambulance is not associated with the Trust. Staff at the County Air Ambulance Trust are appointed by the Board of the Trust and not by the West Midlands ambulance Service.
The County Air Ambulance Trust is the original and the Midland Region’s oldest independent air ambulance charity, formed in 1993.
We are in complete agreement with the decision to introduce a change of name and believe that this will, in fact, help us to raise the profile of the Trust by removing any confusion there may have been amongst the public.
The work of both charities is absolutely essential to the continuation, expansion and clinical enhancement of air ambulance services across the region and our activities are entirely complementary.
The fundamental aim of the County Air Ambulance Trust is to promote, develop and raise much needed funds to support the activities of all six air ambulances across the entire Central England Network and includes the provision of vital finance for infrastructure projects.
An example of our activities includes the financing of the air bases at Strensham and RAF Cosford, a helipad at North Staffordshire Hospital and pilot costs for the Midlands Air Ambulance. Our HELP (Helicopter Emergency Landing Pads) appeal aims to ensure that all key accident and emergency hospitals and trauma centres across the Midlands have the facilities in place for helicopters to land to provide the safe transfer of patients from the helicopter to the admissions area”.
The County Air Ambulance Trust is the only air ambulance charity in the Central England Region with the capability to direct funding to key parts of the network. This will help to ensure optimum quantity and quality of Helicopter Emergency Medical Systems for accident and emergency patients in the region.
